I had a few chocolates and maraschino cherries in the fridge and after some thinking I decided to try and make my own mousse from scratch (other times I bought a mix where you only add milk and out comes the mouse).

For decorating the mousse I used some Maraschino cherries, nougat and chocolate. Other options can also be whipped cream, strawberries, raspberries, choc chips or whatever you feel will complement your mouse. mousse).

It was quite easy and the preparation time is about 30 minutes and then it has to be an hour or two in the refrigerator to set.

You can use your favourite chocolate. I decided on some smooth dark chocolate as it helps that the mousse isn't too sweet. As the maraschino cherries is sweet I think the dark chocolate was a good call. mousse.

At the last minute I decided to make a maraschino glaze that rounded off the mousse in the glass rather nicely. I placed the mousse in glasses but you can also place it in one bowl. The recipe delivers about six servings.

This mousse is perfect for a dessert or even as a snack for a Friday night movie.

I leave you with the recipe and hope that you will have as much fun with it as I did.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

200 g chocolate (about 2 and a 1/2 slabs)

250 ml cream

30 ml castor sugar

4 eggs, separated

Your choice of decoration

Method:

  1. Break up the chocolate and add 50 ml of cream.

  2. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over warm water. Set aside to cool once melted and smooth.

  3. Whip the remaining 200 ml cream until stiff, add the castor sugar and mix in.

  4. Add the egg yolks to the whipped cream mix.

  5. Whip the egg whites until it is really stiff.

  6. Mix the melted chocolate into the cream.

  7. Gently fold the egg whites into the mix.

  8. Pour into a dish or glasses and refrigerate to let it set.

  9. Decorate before serving.

Notes:

  • I used a bottle of maraschino cherries, as mentioned above, heated it up and added 2 teaspoons of cornstarch. When it became thick and glossy I removed it from the heat to cool before placing it on the mousse.

  • For the other glasses I used a small piece of nougat and a bite of chocolate and just gently placed it in the mousse.
